Prime Cabinet Secretary Musalia Mudavadi has called on Principal Secretaries to accelerate the implementation of government projects and programmes ahead of the August 2027 General Elections, emphasising the need to translate policy commitments into tangible benefits for Kenyans.
Mudavadi made the remarks while chairing the second 2026 meeting of the National Development Implementation Committee (NDIC) at the Kenya School of Government in Lower Kabete, Nairobi.
The meeting focused on the implementation of the government’s development agenda, with Mudavadi urging senior public officials to prioritise delivery in key sectors as the country approaches the next general election.

“The true measure of government is not what we promise, but what we deliver for the people,” Mudavadi said.
He stressed that the government’s Bottom-Up Economic Transformation Agenda (BETA) must deliver practical outcomes, including a lower cost of living, more employment opportunities, increased opportunities for young people and inclusive economic growth.
The NDIC brings together senior government officials to assess the implementation of national development priorities and address challenges that could slow the delivery of government programmes.
Mudavadi’s call places renewed emphasis on the role of Principal Secretaries in coordinating ministries, tracking development commitments and ensuring that planned projects translate into services and opportunities for citizens.
With the August 2027 General Elections approaching, the implementation of government programmes is expected to remain a key issue in public discussions about the performance of the administration of President William Ruto.
Mudavadi also underscored the importance of strengthening constitutional institutions and maintaining the government’s commitment to a safe, free and peaceful electoral process in 2027.
His remarks highlighted the need to balance development implementation with institutional accountability and preparations for the next general election.
During the meeting, Nairobi Governor Johnson Sakaja provided an update on cooperation between the national and county governments, including preparedness for El Niño-related challenges.

Head of Public Service Felix Koskei also attended the meeting, which brought together senior officials involved in coordinating government operations and development implementation.
Cooperation between national and county governments remains important in areas such as disaster preparedness, infrastructure development and the delivery of public services, particularly where responsibilities require coordination across different levels of government.
The committee’s deliberations come as the administration continues to pursue its development priorities under BETA, with the implementation of projects and the delivery of measurable outcomes likely to feature prominently in the period leading to the 2027 elections.
