Prime Cabinet Secretary Musalia Mudavadi on Wednesday held a pivotal meeting with Professor Luis G. Franceschi, Assistant Secretary-General of the Commonwealth, aimed at bolstering Kenya’s relations within the Commonwealth and its 56 member states.
During the meeting, held in Nairobi, Mudavadi and Professor Franceschi discussed various bilateral and multilateral efforts to reinforce Kenya’s role in the global organization.
Among the key points raised was an update on the upcoming Commonwealth elections for the Secretary-General, set to take place on Saturday, 26th October 2024.
“Our discussions were productive and underscored the importance of Kenya’s active involvement in the Commonwealth’s agenda,” said Mudavadi. “We are keen on furthering our ties with other member states to foster economic growth, cooperation, and unity.”
A significant highlight of their dialogue was the ongoing effort to reintegrate the Republic of Zimbabwe into the Commonwealth.
Zimbabwe has been out of the organization since 2003, and its re-entry is viewed as a critical step in solidifying pan-African relations within the Commonwealth bloc.
“Zimbabwe’s potential reintegration is a positive move for the entire continent and will further the Commonwealth’s mission of unity,” Mudavadi added.
The meeting between Mudavadi and Franceschi reflects Kenya’s growing diplomatic role in shaping regional and international relations through key platforms like the Commonwealth.
