Prime Cabinet Secretary Musalia Mudavadi has called on the new management of Mumias Sugar Company and local leaders to eradicate corruption within the company.

Speaking in Mumias alongside President William Ruto during the launch of bonus payments for sugarcane farmers, Mudavadi emphasized that past corruption had played a significant role in the collapse of the sugar mill, which affected thousands of livelihoods dependent on the factory.

“This downfall was caused by mismanagement of resources and the fraudulent actions of individuals who had no regard for the well-being of employees and farmers,” Mudavadi stated.

He warned that corruption is not only costly but also destructive, stalling industrial growth, undermining institutions, and hindering economic development.

Mudavadi further pointed to the years it has taken for Mumias Sugar Company to recover from embezzlement, stressing the resilience of farmers who have endured difficult times since the company’s collapse.

“The patience demonstrated by farmers over these challenging years is commendable. I deeply appreciate their resilience and unwavering commitment despite the hardships,” he remarked.

The Prime Cabinet Secretary expressed confidence that revitalizing Mumias Sugar Company would benefit farmers, investors, and businesses, and significantly contribute to the nation’s GDP by boosting revenue generation.

“The revival of Mumias Sugar will put money in the pockets of farmers, investors, and businesses, and will ultimately benefit the government through increased tax revenues.

It will also enhance the country’s sugar production. Investors will enjoy optimal returns, while farmers and employees will receive their fair share of the value they create,” Mudavadi concluded.
