The Mombasa County Government has launched a 100-day crackdown targeting illegal water connections in a bid to curb massive revenue losses and improve water supply efficiency.
According to Mombasa county boss Abdulswamad Nassir illegal connections in the county cost the department of water monthly losses amounting to nearly 100 million shillings.
Abdulswamad has disclosed that houses of Senior County and National Government officials are among twenty-one households discovered to have illegal connections after a crackdown was conducted in Changamwe, Kisauni and Mvita sub counties.
The crackdown aims to reduce non-Revenue Water from 60 per cent to 30 per cent within the next two years.
The public has been urged to provide information to the Department of Water as plans are underway for a free toll number where reports can be made anonymously and be rewarded.
