Former Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko has announced that the United States of America has lifted the travel ban imposed on him and his immediate family in 2022.

The ban barred Sonko, his wife, and children from entering the US due to alleged corruption during his tenure as the Nairobi boss.

Sonko made the announcement on May 20, 2025, via his X (formerly Twitter) account, attributing the lifting of the ban to the administration of US President Donald Trump.

He thanked Trump for what he described as a “rectification of an injustice” and claimed that those who initially implicated him were the most corrupt in Kenya.

The US government has yet to officially confirm or comment on the revocation of the travel ban.
