Football Kenya Federation (FKF) Vice President MacDonald Mariga has raised an alarm over the state of the country’s football, warning of a standoff that will force the postponement of the FKF Premier League kickoff, leaving clubs, players and fans in dilemma.
He called on stakeholders to comply with High Court rulings on the guidelines to apply in the 2026/27 season. He also urged them to respect the decision and work together to get the league up and moving.
“Recent court directions have provided important clarity on the application of the FKF 2019 Rules and Regulations in commencing the 2026/27 season…it provides an opportunity for all parties to step back, respect the decisions of the courts…and work together towards an orderly and lawful resolution,” Mariga said.
Mariga highlighted concerns over how administrative gridlock is damaging the domestic game ahead of hosting the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON).
“I am extremely saddened by the current state of affairs in Kenyan football and in particular, the continued uncertainty surrounding the resumption of our leagues,” he said.
He warned that domestic friction is distracting from essential preparations and the clubs need certainty; our players need competitive football, and our national teams need a properly functioning football ecosystem.
