Leaders from across the country kept on paying their last respects to former Prime Minister Raila Odinga. This time they used powerful symbolic gestures to reflect his deep influence and lasting legacy.

On Saturday Prime Cabinet Secretary Musalia Mudavadi and Trans Nzoia Governor George Natembeya, separately, led the tours to the late Odinga’s home in Opoda, Bondo, Siaya County, loaded with gifts of bulls and maize. The act, full of tradition and symbolism, was to honor the late Prime Minister’s commitment to justice, democracy, and the unification of the nation throughout his life.

On the occasion, Mudavadi stated that it was a debt of gratitude that can never be repaid and therefore the symbols represent the giving back of the great things that the late Father of the Nation gave to this country. He added the presents were a way of saying thank you to Raila for the massive changes he initiated in the political and social sectors of the country.

Governor Natembeya referred to Odinga as such an excellent architect of harmony and peace that he always put not just his country but the whole region’s interests ahead of his own. “Raila Odinga was the one that showed us what true resilience, patriotism, and service to the people really meant. The virtues he lived by will continue to be our guide,” said Natembeya.

The groups were among the many thousands of people who keep coming to pay their last respects at the late Odinga’s house in Opoda Farm ahead of the burial that will take place on Sunday, October 19, 2025, at Kang’o ka Jaramogi, Bondo.
