Liverpool forward Rio Ngumoha has signed his first professional contract with the Premier League champions.
The 17-year-old has enjoyed a breakout season, scoring a dramatic 100th-minute winner against Newcastle on his Premier League debut last month.
While Liverpool have not disclosed the length of the new deal, the move marks a major milestone for the highly rated youngster.
Ngumoha joined Liverpool from Chelsea’s academy in September 2024, opting for the Reds despite Chelsea offering multiple contract extensions and assurances of a clear path to the first team.
Regarded as the best player in his age group at Chelsea, he believed Liverpool offered better opportunities for senior football.
Since arriving at Anfield, Ngumoha has made five senior appearances. In January, he became the youngest player to start a match for Liverpool, aged just 16, during a 4–0 FA Cup win over Accrington Stanley.
He made his Champions League debut this month in a victory over Atletico Madrid at Anfield.
The teenager has also impressed on the international stage, making his debut for England U-19s on 3 September after previously representing the country at various youth levels.
Ngumoha was included in Arne Slot’s first-team squad during pre-season, where he stood out with strong performances.
He scored just two minutes into a friendly against Athletic Club and received a standing ovation upon his substitution.
He also registered an assist against AC Milan and scored against Yokohama F. Marinos during Liverpool’s tour of Asia.
