Mbeere North MP Leo Wamuthende has expressed confidence as pre-trial proceedings in the petition challenging his by-election victory officially commenced at the High Court of Embu today.
Accompanied by his legal team, Wamuthende reaffirmed his readiness to defend the results of the election, describing the process as fair and transparent.
“We remain confident, focused, and fully prepared to defend the clear and undisputed will of the people of Mbeere North. We won this election fairly, squarely, and transparently, and the truth will prevail,” he said.
The legal challenge was filed by his competitor, Newton Karish of the Democratic Party, who claims that the by-election was not conducted freely and fairly, citing alleged irregularities during the voting process.
The petition marks the beginning of a potentially intense legal battle as both sides present evidence and arguments.
Observers say the case could have significant implications for electoral credibility in the region and may set precedents for future election disputes.
