The Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA) has named career intelligence officer Mohamed Abdul M’maka as the new Commissioner for Investigations and Enforcement after interviews held on March 11, 2026.

KRA Commissioner General Humphrey Wattanga declared that the authority’s board hassanctioned M’maka’s appointment starting March 11. The role became availableafter the retirement of the former office holder.

M’maka assumes the positionduring a period when the tax agencyexperiences pressure to achieve ambitious revenue goals and enhance enforcement actionsthroughout the nation’s tax framework.

Asstatedby Wattanga, the selectionintroduces to the positionaseasoned intelligence expert with overtwentyyears in security, investigations, and enforcement activities.

“M’maka offersover 21 years of expertise in intelligence and security services,” stated Wattanga. “His experience in intelligence coordination and enforcement activities will be vital in enhancing KRA’s investigative and compliance initiatives.”

Priorto his appointment, M’maka heldtheroleof Chief Manager for Intelligence Collection at KRA, a position he tookon in August 2025. In that position, he managed the collection and analysis of intelligence toaid the authority’s tax enforcement efforts.

He hasformerlyoccupiedvarioushigh-levelpositions within the authority, suchas Chief Manager for Intelligence Coordination and Operations and Chief Manager for Intelligence Exchange, where he contributedtoimproving intelligence cooperation and operational enforcement.

Before joining the tax authority, M’maka heldvarioushigh-level security roles in both public and private sectors. His previouspositionscomprise Chief Security Officer at Kenya Power and Lighting Company and Security Protection and Integrity Manager at Kenya Airways.

He additionally served as a Senior Intelligence Officer and Investigator at the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC), havingpreviouslyheldroles as a Field Intelligence Manager and Troop Commander in the Kenya Defence Forces.
