Kenya Ports Authority (KPA) has emerged as the top performer at this year’s Mombasa International Agricultural Society of Kenya (ASK) Show, collecting 11 awards in recognition of its contribution to trade facilitation, digital innovation, environmental stewardship and the Blue Economy.
The Authority secured seven first-place awards, including recognition for excellence in the provision of viable transport services, international trade and export strategies, and the application of environmental quality standards.
KPA was also recognised for its use of information and communication technology and for mounting one of the exhibition’s most outstanding large commercial and industrial displays.
One of its notable achievements was winning the award for the stand exhibiting the most Blue Economy innovations and inventions, reflecting the Authority’s growing focus on maritime-led economic development and sustainable utilisation of ocean resources.
KPA also emerged as the government institution that best interpreted the current ASK Show theme, further highlighting its role in supporting national development through efficient port and logistics services.
The Authority won three second-place awards for its support of community projects, youth empowerment and capacity-building initiatives, as well as non-agricultural statutory boards.
It also received a third-place award for promoting national cohesion and integration development.
Agriculture and Livestock Development Cabinet Secretary Mutahi Kagwe officially opened the exhibition at the Mkomani Showground in Mombasa on behalf of President William Ruto.
Kagwe said the ASK Show provides an important platform for showcasing the latest innovations in the agricultural sector.
He noted that the Ministry had embarked on an economic revival strategy dubbed “From Farm to Port”, aimed at connecting agricultural production with efficient logistics systems and international markets.
“Through the Ports of Mombasa and Lamu, Kenya is strategically positioned to provide a critical logistical link between East African agricultural producers and markets across the globe,” said CS Kagwe.
The Cabinet Secretary later toured the KPA stand, where he was received by KPA Session Chairman and Board Member Ahmed Muktar, General Manager Engineering Services Julius Tai, who represented Chief Executive Officer Capt. William Ruto, Manager Corporate Communication Jones Buchere, and Manager Procurement and Contract Management Moses Sirgoi.
Principal Secretary in the State Department for Transport Mohamed Daghar also visited the KPA stand and commended the Authority for its commitment to innovation and contribution to national growth through efficient cargo movement and logistics services.
KPA Board Member Ahmed Muktar congratulated the KPA Show Committee for its performance, praising the team for sustaining the Authority’s winning streak at previous exhibitions.
He urged the team to maintain the momentum and continue striving for excellence.
This year’s ASK Show is being held under the theme “Promoting Climate Smart Agriculture and Trade Initiatives for Sustainable Economic Growth.”
