After decades of service at the national and legislative levels, seasoned politician and Laikipia East Member of Parliament, Mwangi Kiunjuri, has formally declared his intention to run for the Laikipia County gubernatorial seat.
The move, confirmed by reliable party sources, signals a significant political re-alignment in the region, positioning the former Cabinet Secretary for a fresh battle to lead the county government.
Mr. Kiunjuri, the party leader of The Service Party (TSP), is set to vie for the county’s top job on his party’s ticket.
Sources close to his campaign indicate that the MP has already laid extensive groundwork, translating his legislative experience into a platform aimed at addressing the deeply rooted challenges facing Laikipia residents, particularly issues of land conflict, marginalization, and water scarcity.
This declaration marks a powerful shift for Kiunjuri, who has been a prominent national figure since he was first elected as MP for Laikipia East at the age of 27.
”Its true the MP is eyeing the governor seat, the plans are there and its just a matter of time before he publicly announce his bid to the public,’source revealed.
Having served three consecutive terms in Parliament (1997-2013) and held powerful ministerial positions, including Agriculture and Devolution, his return to grassroots county politics is being framed by his allies as a direct response to the community’s persistent need for experienced, results-driven leadership.
