The Kenya Electricity Transmission Company (KETRACO) has achieved a major milestone in strengthening Kenya’s electricity transmission network following the successful energisation of the 132kV Nanyuki-Isiolo Transmission Line.

The transmission line was energised on August 27, 2026, marking an important step towards improving the reliability and stability of electricity supply in Isiolo, Meru, Laikipia and the wider Upper Eastern region.

KETRACO said the project will increase transmission capacity in the region, helping to meet rising electricity demand while supporting future economic development.

The new transmission infrastructure is also expected to create an enabling environment for increased investment and economic activity by providing a more reliable power supply to businesses, industries and communities.

The project comes as Kenya continues to expand and modernise its electricity transmission network to keep pace with growing demand and support the country’s development agenda.

KETRACO said the successful energisation of the Nanyuki-Isiolo line will play an important role in strengthening the region’s power infrastructure and unlocking new opportunities for economic growth.
