Several roads in Nyamira County are currently being repaired and upgraded, in a move expected to improve transport and open up the area.
In a post on his X account, Internal Security Principal Secretary Raymond Omollo said the works are being carried out by the Kenya Rural Roads Authority (KeRRA).
The project covers a total of 60.1 kilometres and touches on a number of key link roads across the county.
Among the sections being worked on is the Eronge–Kebuse–Kahawa–Memisi–Tembwo Border route heading to Borabu TTC and Omonyenya, which stretches about 23.5 kilometres. There is also the Amakara–Isoge–Chebilat road (16 km), the Chencha–Simbauti–Tindereti–Nyansiongo Mission stretch (13 km), and another road running from the Anti-Stock Theft Unit through Saiga Ngiya and Kineni Junction to Prince Dan High School.
From the update, the aim is to connect these roads into one network that makes movement easier within the county.
Omollo said the works will help reach areas that have for a long time been hard to access, especially during bad weather. For many residents, this could mean shorter travel time and less struggle getting to nearby towns.
He also pointed out that better roads will make it easier for people to access services like health facilities and government offices.
At the same time, the improvements are expected to support local businesses, especially farmers who rely on these roads to transport their produce to markets.
Security is another area expected to benefit, particularly along routes near the border with Sotik in Bomet County.
The road works are part of ongoing efforts to improve rural infrastructure and support development at the local level.
