Kericho County will take centre stage on December 19 as the National Farmers Awards & Celebrations return in a bold, high-profile tribute to the men and women driving Kenya’s food systems, rural economies and agribusiness transformation.

Set in the rolling highlands of the tea belt at Kiprugut Chumo Stadium, the flagship event—hosted by the Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock Development in partnership with county governments—will convene farmers, agribusiness leaders, innovators, policymakers and development partners from across the country from 9.00 a.m.

More than a ceremonial gathering, the National Farmers Awards have grown into Kenya’s most authoritative platform for recognising excellence in agriculture, spotlighting individuals and institutions advancing productivity, value addition, job creation and food security across the entire value chain.

This year, the awards break with tradition by deliberately recognising every link that keeps agriculture moving from soil to shelf. Honours will span:

  1. Individual Farmers
  2. Seed Growers
  3. Agro-dealers
  4. Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs)
  5. Millers
  6. Transporters, including motorbike operators supporting last-mile fertiliser and input delivery
  7. Manufacturers
  8. County Value Chains

The expanded categories send a clear policy message: Kenya’s agricultural transformation will be inclusive, market-driven and value-chain focused—rewarding not only producers, but also traders, processors, logistics players and counties building competitive agricultural ecosystems.

Senior national and county leaders are expected to attend, led by Dr. Kiprono Ronoh Paul, CBS, Principal Secretary in the State Department for Agriculture.

His participation underscores the government’s strong commitment to farmer-centred reforms, increased productivity, value addition, market access and enhanced private sector participation.

County governments—the frontline implementers of agricultural transformation—will showcase successful grassroots models, innovative partnerships and value-chain interventions delivering tangible results for farmers.

Held under the theme “Seeds of Excellence: Recognising Innovation, Inclusion and Impact in Kenyan Agriculture and the Livestock Sector,” the 2025 awards seek to inspire a new generation of farmers and agripreneurs, promote climate-smart practices and boost agribusiness competitiveness at both county and national levels.

According to the Ministry, the National Farmers Awards have become a powerful convening platform—amplifying success stories, strengthening national-county collaboration and aligning public and private sector efforts toward food security, income growth and economic transformation.

As Kenya accelerates agricultural reforms and deepens value-chain development, the 2025 National Farmers Awards will stand as a bold national declaration: the farmer—and everyone who supports the farmer—remains firmly at the heart of Kenya’s development agenda.
