Treasury Cabinet Secretary John Mbadi has urged Kenyans to submit their suggestions for the 2025/2026 fiscal year budget.
In a notice issued on Tuesday, December 17, Mbadi invited the public to propose ideas on various issues, including reforms in revenue administration and measures to support the growth of the manufacturing sector. He also encouraged people to recommend ways to improve macroeconomic stability and enhance the implementation of government programs and projects.
Kenyans were asked to suggest amendments to tax laws, with each proposal needing clear justification. Mbadi explained that the call for submissions aligns with Articles 201 and 232(1)(d) of the Constitution and Section 35 of the Public Finance Management Act, which promote transparency, accountability, and public participation in financial matters.
“The National Treasury hereby invites the members of the public, the national government and county governments, non-governmental organisations, civil societies, professional bodies, private sector players, and religious groups to make submissions for consideration in the preparation of the fiscal budget for the Financial Year 2025/2026,” the notice stated. “The proposals received will guide the reforms to be undertaken to foster inclusive economic growth for the welfare of all Kenyans,” Mbadi added.
Hard copies of the proposals should be submitted to the Treasury offices, while soft copies can be emailed to submissions@treasury.go.ke by Friday, January 17, 2025.
This announcement follows three months after Mbadi officially launched the budget preparation process for the 2025/2026 fiscal year. During a speech at the Kenyatta International Convention Centre (KICC) on September 16, Mbadi also revealed that the government plans to adopt zero-based budgeting for the upcoming year.
