A Kenyan ship has been held in Tanzania, raising concern as authorities in Nairobi move to find out what happened.
The Kenya Maritime Authority (KMA) confirmed that the vessel, identified as M/V Sea Mfalme, is being held in Tanzania under unclear circumstances.
In a short statement on Thursday, KMA said it is working with other government offices and also talking to officials in Tanzania to get full details.
Currently, nothing has been established regarding the circumstances under which the ship was detained. As it happens regularly, ships may be detained due to some technical problems, lack of proper documents, or similar issues.
This incident comes after a number of cases concerning Kenya and Tanzania have recently emerged related to the cross-border issues.
Back in March two Kenyan policemen were detained in Tanzania in a raid conducted in the vicinity of the border line. There have also been several cases of smuggling reported lately on the coastal areas.
At the moment, Kenyan officials are investigating this case and will provide further information soon.
