The Kenya National Public Health Institute (KNPHI) has been endorsed to spearhead regional collaboration among National Public Health Institutes, strengthening disease preparedness and surveillance across Eastern Africa.

Dr. Kamene Kimenye, Acting Director General of KNPHI, was appointed Chair of the Technical Advisory Committee of the Eastern Africa Regional Coordinating Centre (EA-RCC) during the 7th RETAC Technical Committee Meeting held in Djibouti.

The EA-RCC, which is headquartered in Nairobi, will coordinate public health initiatives across IGAD Member States, focusing on disease surveillance, emergency response, and cross-border data sharing.

KNPHI’s elevation reaffirms Kenya’s growing leadership in public health, supported by its strategic investments in health systems and regional solidarity.

The Africa CDC commended Kenya for hosting the centre and its ongoing commitment to innovation in health governance.
