Kenya has been ranked the 127th most peaceful country out of 167 globally, according to the 2025 Global Peace Index (GPI) released by the Institute for Economics and Peace (IEP).
According to the report, the Sub- Saharan Africa has recorded a deterioration in peacefulness by 0.17 percent over the past year due to increase in political unrest and terrorism in the spectral Sahel region.
Due to the rising tension of protests in the country which has left tens lifeless, Women in Alternative Dispute resolution have urged the government to prioritize peace mechanisms like mediation and reconciliation and foster peace in the country.
In June 2025, Institute for Economic Peace released the 19th edition of the Global Peace Index which ranks 163 countries according to their level of peacefulness measured in three domains; the level of societal safety and security, the extent of ongoing domestic and International conflict and the degree of Militarisation.
Globally, Iceland was ranked as the most peaceful country ,a position it has held since 2008, whereas Russia for the first time in history emerged the least peaceful country. In the Sub Saharan Africa, Mauritius is the most peaceful country with Kenya ranked 31 out of 44 countries on the region.
According to the report, this is because the region faces several security crises, mostly the increase in political unrest.
In light of the mounting tension and emerging conflicts in different parts of the country, Women in Alternative Dispute resolution have urged the public to prioritize amicable dispute mechanisms among them dialogues and mediation as a means of fostering peace, economic resilience and professional integrity.
The proliferation of continued conflict they say, threatens to erode the gains made in governance, entrepreneurship, innovation and the rule of law.
The stakeholders have however urged Kenyans to seek mediation services in the occurrence of disputes and conflicts from the lobby which has over 200 members.
