The State Department for Diaspora Affairs has held discussions with representatives from Altima Africa as part of ongoing efforts to strengthen Kenya’s labour mobility framework and expand employment opportunities for Kenyan professionals abroad.

The engagement was led by Altima Africa Managing Director Sam Watene and focused on developing evidence-based insights and policy recommendations to promote Kenyan talent and skills in the global labour market.

According to the State Department for Diaspora Affairs, the discussions form part of broader efforts to create safer, decent and sustainable employment pathways for Kenyans seeking opportunities outside the country.

The government has increasingly placed labour mobility at the centre of its diaspora engagement strategy, seeking to connect skilled Kenyan workers with international employment opportunities while strengthening safeguards for those working abroad.

Officials present at the meeting included Philip Opwora from the Skills and Expertise Division, alongside Evalyne Nthiga, Sally Mlingi and Elise Shea of Labour Mobility Partnerships (LaMP).

The collaboration is expected to contribute to policy discussions aimed at improving the country’s labour mobility systems and positioning Kenyan skills and expertise for greater access to the global job market.
