The Kenyan government has once again emphasized the continuing enforcement of the 2017 Shisha ban, with Public Health Principal Secretary Mary Muthoni making it clear that the restrictions on the production, sale, importation, and consumption of Shisha remain in force.
“The Ministry of Health wishes to remind all citizens that the 2017 Shisha ban is still fully in effect,” stated Muthoni, reiterating that the law prohibits any activity involving Shisha.
The Ministry of Health has highlighted the serious health risks associated with Shisha use, including respiratory and cardiovascular diseases. The court system has consistently backed the ban, with both the High Court and Court of Appeal confirming its legitimacy.
Muthoni encouraged citizens to abide by the regulations, urging law enforcement to continue monitoring and taking action against violators.
Despite the ban, concerns over the ongoing use of Shisha have been raised by NACADA, who have noted that Shisha remains prevalent, especially in entertainment venues, despite its prohibition.
