Ministry of Health has signed a landmark Collaboration Framework with The Nairobi Hospital, through the Social Health Authority (SHA), aimed at expanding access to specialized healthcare services for Kenyans under the SHA program.
The agreement will see eligible SHA beneficiaries access advanced oncology and renal care at no out-of-pocket cost, with each member entitled to a care package worth up to KSh 550,000.
Services include brachytherapy, radio-iodine therapy, CT planning, cancer screening, diagnostics, radiotherapy, renal dialysis, and even kidney transplants all fully covered.
“This partnership is a significant milestone in reducing the financial burden of chronic illnesses on Kenyan families while moving us closer to achieving Universal Health Coverage (UHC),” the Health Cabinet Secretary said.
The announcement was made during a visit to The Nairobi Hospital, where East Africa’s first 256-slice CT scanner was also officially commissioned a major advancement expected to boost diagnostic accuracy and improve patient outcomes across the region.
The event was hosted by The Nairobi Hospital CEO Felix Osano and Board Chair Dr. Barcley Onyambu.
Senior health officials including PS Dr. Ouma Oluga, PS Mary Muthoni, Director General Dr. Patrick Amoth, and SHA CEO Dr. Mercy Mwangangi were in attendance.
