Candidates who wish to repeat the Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) examinations have been given a deadline of March 31 to register for the exams.
This was announced by the Kenya National Examinations Council (KNEC) in a new set of registration guidelines for the KCSE examinations.
According to the new guidelines, the KCSE candidates who wish to repeat the exams are free to register as either full repeaters or partial repeaters regardless of the year they first attempted the KCSE exams.
“Do you wish to give the KCSE examination another attempt? You only have two chances left: this and next year. The registration for this year is underway and will end soon,” the council said in the new guidelines.
KNEC also stated that those who register for the exams in seven or more subjects are considered full repeaters. After the exams, the full repeaters are awarded a mean grade as well as the KCSE certificate.
Those who register for fewer than seven subjects are considered partial repeaters. The partial repeaters are awarded a results slip containing the grades achieved in the particular subjects attempted.
However, the council clarified that candidates who wish to retake their exams cannot introduce new subjects that they did not sit for in their previous KCSE examination.
Those who wish to retake their exams are advised to visit their nearest Sub-County Director of Education office to register as private candidates.
KNEC also announced that repeaters are expected to pay an examination fee of KSh7,200. The payment should be made directly to the council through the eCitizen government services portal.
KNEC has set a deadline of March 31 for the registration of the 2026 KCSE exams, and there will be no extensions beyond that date.
In other KCSE news, the KCSE exams timetable for this year has been released. The exams are set to take place from October 19 to 20, and then later in the month, ending on November 20, with a Physics practical exam set for 2.5 hours. The first day of the exams will see French, German, Sign Language, and Music exams taking place.
