Kamene Goro, a well-known media personality, recently opened up about her impressive earnings during her time in radio. The former Kiss FM presenter shared that she once took home a seven-figure salary, making over KSh 1 million per month while working in the radio industry.

During a guest appearance on a cooking show hosted by Boina, a passionate food enthusiast, Kamene spoke candidly about the financial benefits that come with a career in radio. When asked if she would ever consider hosting a Kiswahili radio show for a KSh 1 million salary, Kamene confidently replied, “I’ve been paid more than that.” She emphasized that radio is a lucrative field that offers great earning potential.

Despite the financial appeal, Kamene was quick to dismiss the idea of hosting a Kiswahili radio show, revealing that her fluency in the language is not up to par. “My Kiswahili isn’t that great, and I just can’t do it,” she said. She also pointed out that her unique radio style, which revolves around sharing life stories and personal experiences, doesn’t align with the formal tone typically required for a Kiswahili broadcast.

Reflecting on her time in the industry, Kamene fondly mentioned her former co-host, Jalang’o, as one of her favorites. She praised his laid-back personality, which made their collaboration feel natural and enjoyable.

Now serving as the Head of Brand at NRG Radio, Kamene shared some valuable insights for aspiring radio presenters. She emphasized the importance of discipline, noting that many in the industry have failed due to a lack of it. “Discipline is key,” she advised. “Many have come and gone because they couldn’t stick with it.” Kamene also encouraged future broadcasters to remain authentic. “Always be honest and true to yourself; listeners can tell when you’re not being real.” Finally, she highlighted the significance of storytelling. “Be a good storyteller. That comes from reading, because you can’t share knowledge if you’re not learning from somewhere.”

Kamene’s advice and experiences offer a glimpse into the realities of working in the radio industry, where both passion and dedication are essential for long-term success.
