A Kakamega man has been sentenced to life imprisonment after being convicted of defiling an 11-year-old girl in Kakamega North Sub-County.
The conviction was secured by the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (ODPP) following a prosecution case that relied on the testimony of four witnesses.
The case was heard at Butali Magistrate’s Court, where Principal Prosecution Counsel Justus Ochengo, assisted by Edward Sudi, led the prosecution team.
According to the ODPP, the court found the evidence presented by the prosecution credible, consistent and sufficient to prove the case beyond reasonable doubt.
The offence occurred on January 4, 2024, in the Furave area of Kakamega North Sub-County.
The court heard that the accused, who was known to the minor as a neighbour, lured her into his house where the offence occurred.
Medical evidence presented during the trial was also used to support the prosecution’s case.
Hon. Josephine Nyatuga subsequently convicted the accused and sentenced him to life imprisonment.
The accused has 14 days within which to appeal against the conviction and sentence.
The ODPP said the conviction demonstrated the importance of witness testimony and supporting evidence in securing justice for victims of sexual offences.
