The Kakamega County Government has issued a notice to employ over 265 health workers in an effort to improve healthcare services across the county.

In a notice released on Monday, the County Public Service Board invited qualified candidates to apply by Friday, October 10, 2025.

The new recruitment drive is targeting a wide range of medical specialists, with doctors taking the largest chunk.

At least 18 medical officers are to be deployed to public hospitals across the county to help address staffing shortages in both primary and referral hospitals.

The remaining vacancies are for pharmacists, dental officers, nurses, nutritionists, physiotherapists, clinical officers, laboratory technologists, radiographers, mortuary attendants, community oral health officers, and public health officers.

The 14 public health officers and 13 community oral health officers to be employed will strengthen preventive care and raise coverage in rural and remote areas, in alignment with the government’s universal health coverage agenda.

The news comes just months after the end of a month-long doctors’ strike in May, when the county government signed a return-to-work deal over matters of medical insurance, promotions, and regularization of locum doctors on permanent terms.

How to Apply

The potential candidates have been directed to apply online through the Kakamega County Government website.

Applications for most of the vacancies are to be lodged under the “Job Offers” section by October 10, 2025, at 11:59 pm.

Applications for the position of Community Administrator are, however, to be done manually, according to the information provided on the county website.

The notice further stated that complete information on the requirements for jobs and the duties is posted online and at all Sub-County headquarters.
