The Miss USA pageant has entered new chapter in its history with the crowning of Miss Virginia, Justus Kelley, taking home the Miss USA 2026.
The 31-year-old breaks the record, shifting the traditional image of national beauty queen, becoming the first mother, the first married woman and the first woman in her 30s to capture the Miss USA title.
Her coronation, held in Las Vegas was met with much applause as she stepped forward in her crown and sash, holding a bouquet of flowers. Beyond the pageant stage, her triumph is meaningful at a time when major competitions are becoming more inclusive of women from different walks of life.
For decades, Miss USA contestants were required to be single and without children, a rule that excluded many women from participating.
Kelley is expected to carry the American flag at the 75th Miss Universe competition in Puerto Rico this November, where she will compete against delegates from the world for one of pageantry’s most coveted crowns.
Her triumph is expected to inspire a new generation of contestants who may have previously felt excluded from pageantry, a platform that reflects the realities of contemporary womanhood, rather than outdated ideals.
