The government has again reiterated the commitment to strengthening the nation’s health workforce, with Principal Secretary for Medical Services Dr. Ouma Oluga stating that the country’s push for Universal Health Coverage depends on well-supported health workers on the frontlines.
Dr. Oluga made the remarks in Nairobi, during the launch of the KMPDU Strategic Plan, where he observed that President William Ruto has placed welfare and deployment of health workers at the centre of ongoing health sector reforms.
He pointed to recent milestones that include the establishment of the Health Human Resource Advisory Council and the appointment of a national taskforce to address health worker welfare. The government, he also said, has made progress in clinical postings, internship placements, and staffing arrangements tied to UHC.
“These are clear signals of the direction we are taking as a country,” he said, adding that the government is ready to work with KMPDU as the union begins to implement its new plan.
For KMPDU, the launch of the strategy marks an important step in efforts to strengthen the health workforce and improve the quality of care offered to Kenyans across the country.
