The government has stepped up coordination among state agencies as it strengthens preparedness and public awareness efforts in response to Bundibugyo Virus Disease (BVD).

Principal Secretary for Medical Services Dr Ouma Oluga said a coordinated approach involving different government institutions was important in supporting the national response.

Oluga spoke on Wednesday during a high-level intergovernmental briefing at Radisson Blu, attended by Principal Secretaries from various ministries, departments and agencies (MDAs), alongside chief executive officers of health semi-autonomous government agencies.

This meeting was aimed at ensuring that officials coordinate their activities and make institutions cooperate in preparing for the disease.

Oluga underscored the importance of institutions being prepared, communicating effectively, and providing the right information to the people regarding the disease.

Cooperation among government departments, following the right guidelines by the government, and continuing public awareness were among the important issues raised in the briefing.

There was a confirmation by the officials that the government is determined to adopt a coordinated approach to the problem based on evidence.

Among the guests present at the meeting was the Director-General for Health, Dr Patrick Amoth.
