The government’s sibsidized fertilizer and seeds program have helped over 3.5 million farmers across the country to boost food production and increase value chain.
Agricultural production has increased by 38.9 percent rising from 61.7 million metric tonnes in 2022 to 85.7 million metric tonnes in 2024.Another initiative is the cost of fertilizer which has declined by 67 percent from Kshs 7,500 percent in 2025.
When presenting budget for the financial year 2025/2026, National Treasury and Economic Planning Cabinet Secretary John Mbadi praised government’s initiative in eliminating hunger in the country “This is a clear demonstration of the positive impact of our agricultural reforms towards food security and improved household income” said Mbadi
Farmers cultivating export crops have also reported improved yields and income stability, strengthening Kenya’s position in regional and international markets.The prises of essential food items, including sugar, milk, maize flour, wheat flour, bread, and rice have eased. This has been triggered by affordable fertilizer and seeds program
The price of 2 Kg of sifted maize flour was selling at Kshs 177.7 in October 2022 and now has declined to Kshs 156.9 in May 2025The government remains committed in leveraging agriculture, promoting food security and enhancing sustainability.
