In a major breakthrough, detectives from Kisumu West, working closely with the Crime Research and Intelligence Bureau from the Nyanza region, have arrested two fugitives linked to a brutal gang-rape and robbery incident that shocked residents of Siaya and Kisumu counties.
The suspects, who had been terrorizing areas including Yala, Maseno, and Kisumu, were apprehended after a high-speed chase through Kisumu City, culminating in a dramatic crash near Kondele.
The incident traces back to the night of May 12, 2025, when a woman was abducted outside her home in Ongallo village after leaving Billionaires Bar and Restaurant with her cousin.
Armed assailants ambushed them in a grey Toyota Axio, kidnapping the woman, robbing her of valuables, and later subjecting her to a horrific gang rape before abandoning her at Daraja Mbili.
Following forensic leads, detectives tracked the vehicle and arrested Fredrick Oduor Ongori, the driver and alleged ringleader. His arrest led to the capture of his accomplice, John Okumu Owidhi, alias Matools, in the Obunga slums.
Both men were found to be jailbreak fugitives and are now in custody as investigations continue to identify and apprehend other members of the gang.
Police have vowed to bring all perpetrators to justice and ensure safety for residents across the region.
