Rigathi Gachagua has escalated his political offensive in Kiambu County, unveiling businessman John Mwaura as the Democrats for the Citizen Party (DCP) gubernatorial candidate for the 2027 General Election.

The unveiling, held at the party headquarters in Lavington, Nairobi, marked a renewed push by Gachagua to consolidate support in the Mt. Kenya region while directly challenging allies of President William Ruto.

During the event, Gachagua urged Kiambu voters to reject leaders aligned with the ruling UDA party, accusing them of betraying the electorate.

“Kiambu is home, and we must reject leaders who have betrayed the community,” he said, as he launched a political mobilization drive dubbed “Operation Fagia Kiambu.”

The campaign, he said, is aimed at unseating leaders perceived to have abandoned the region’s interests, signaling an intensifying political rivalry ahead of the 2027 polls.

Gachagua also rallied aspirants to strengthen grassroots networks, pledging personal support in their campaigns.

“I will support you and attend your meetings when invited. I will be on the ground with you,” he said.

DCP Deputy Party Leader Cleophas Malala revealed that at least 71 parliamentary aspirants from Kiambu have already registered under the party, in what he described as growing momentum ahead of the elections.

Meanwhile, Mwaura positioned himself as a reform candidate, promising to address what he termed as inequitable resource distribution in Kiambu.

“I am ready to offer leadership that ensures Kiambu residents get a fair share of national resources,” he said.

He outlined plans to revive healthcare services, work closely with Members of County Assembly (MCAs), and create job opportunities for young people.

Mwaura is expected to face stiff competition from incumbent Governor Kimani Wamatangi and Thika Town MP Alice Ng’ang’a, among other aspirants, in what is shaping up to be a highly contested race.
