From Eldama to Uzalendo: Half Marathon Gets a Patriotic Makeover

Uzalendo half marathon launch, formerly called Eldama Ravine half marathon.

The 12th edition of Eldama Ravine half marathon set for July 19 in Baringo county has been renamed Uzalendo half marathon.

This year’s theme is “Run for Education and Patriotism”

The race which is a charity event whose proceeds go towards infrastructure development of Uzalendo School, a Starehe model school and also supporting bright and needy students has attracted over 1000 runners.

The organisers have set aside a prize pool of Sh.5 million. Winners in both categories will take home Sh250,000, the second placed runner will pocket Sh150,000 and the third placed athlete bagging Sh100,000.

Top 10 winners will also bag cash prizes.

The race will start at Muserechi, then head to Mid World which is located on the equator before heading to Esageri, Kambi Moi, Sabatia Co-operative Society.

It will then take a U-turn on the right side of the road at Kaokidion junction, then move to Uzalendo School before finishing at the Farmers Training Centre

The Athletics Kenya (AK) Baringo county Vice Chairman Simon Kiyeng said the race has been sanctioned by the local governing body AK and called on athletes to register in big numbers.

The event is divided into four categories; the Uzalendo Half marathon (21km), youth run (5km), corporate fun run (5km) and 2km children’s dash.

The Ministry of Sports has sponsored the race as well the Kenya Commercial Bank which has donated Sh2 million.

Cabinet Secretary (CS) for Gender Hannah Cheptumo and the Eldama Ravine MP Musa Sirma graced the renaming event at a Nairobi hotel.
