Four suspects have been arrested after a major crackdown on illicit alcohol in Vihiga and Kakamega counties that was conducted by a multi, agency security team from Ikolomani Sub, County.

Western Regional Police Commander Issa Mohamud, led operation yielded the seizure of thousands of litres of illegal brews along with brewing equipment believed to be used in the illegal trade.

Speaking during the operation, Mohamud praised the crackdown as a major breakthrough. Security agencies, he added, will continue to conduct the operations that will ultimately get rid of the two counties of the vice.

However, he gave a warning to police officers who aid or protect illicit brew dealers. Those officers who will be found complicit, he said, will face the full force of the law.

“The fight against illicit brews shall persist, and no one will be spared, including policemen who are the facilitators of this illegal trade, ” Mohamud said.

The suspects are currently in police custody at Kakamega Central Police Station and will be brought before the court after the investigation process is completed.

The crackdown coincided with President William Ruto’s call to security agencies to battle illicit brews and drug trade intensely.
