Detectives in Bomet Central have arrested 28-year-old Wesley Cheruiyot Koech, the main suspect in the brutal murder of 45-year-old Rachealine Rutto, whose body was found with multiple stab wounds on March 25, 2025.
The chilling discovery was made by Rutto’s daughter, who became alarmed after her repeated calls to her mother went unanswered.
When she went to check on her, she found her lifeless body lying in a pool of blood on the bed—bearing deep cuts to the neck and multiple stab wounds on the arm, chest, and back.
An intense investigation followed, with forensic leads eventually guiding detectives to Sailo village in Kipkelion East Sub-County, where Koech had gone into hiding.
Upon arrest, he led detectives to his house, where they recovered key evidence, including a bloodstained knife believed to be the murder weapon, the victim’s ring, and a mobile phone containing disturbing photos of the body allegedly taken after the murder.
Investigations revealed that the killing was fueled by a lingering grudge. Koech, who once dated Rutto, allegedly became bitter after she ended their relationship in 2016 and moved on with someone else. He is said to have felt betrayed after financially supporting her during their time together.
Koech is currently in custody and will be arraigned in court as the investigation continues.
