An Eldoret Court has sentenced Godfrey Maundu Nzilu, a Sergeant with the Kenya Forest Service, to a fine of Kshs 500,000 or five years in prison for document forgery and uttering false documents.
Senior Principal Magistrate Hon. Peter Areri handed down the sentence after Nzilu was found guilty on four counts of uttering false documents, in violation of Section 353 of the Penal Code, and one count of forgery, contrary to Section 349 of the Penal Code.
Nzilu had submitted a forged Diploma certificate from the Technical University of Kenya (TUK) to his employer, the Kenya Forest Service (KFS).
He also presented counterfeit Bachelor’s and Diploma certificates in Criminology and Forensic Studies to Moi University for authentication, for courses he had not attended.
The prosecution, led by Mr. David Fedha and Ms. Patricia Kirui, proved the case beyond a reasonable doubt with the testimony of sixteen witnesses and thirty-three exhibits.
