Health Cabinet Secretary Aden Duale yesterday unveiled a new CT scan centre in Bungoma County, a move expected to improve access to specialised medical tests for residents in the region.
The new facility, set up at Bungoma County Referral Hospital, includes an Annex Radiology Unit and a modern CT scan centre. It is equipped with a 128-slice CT scanner under the National Equipment Service Programme (NESP).
According to the Ministry of Health, the new facility has already begun its operations where it is currently treating dozens of patients from Bungoma and surrounding counties. This facility is expected to alleviate the plight of many people who had to wait for a long time to undergo CT scans.
While visiting the facility, Duale paid visits to different sections of the facility. Among the sections visited included Mother and Child Health Centre and Cancer and Palliative Care Unit which have been instrumental in providing better healthcare services to mothers.
The Ministry further stated that it was undertaking efforts towards enhancing cancer treatment across the country as per the UHC program. This is being achieved through establishment of regional oncology facilities at Jaramogi
