Detectives have arrested two suspected drug peddlers and seized heroin valued at more than Sh4 million during a multi-agency operation in Utange, Mombasa County.
The suspects, identified as Tawaida Ali Said and Shamim Abubakar, were apprehended following a coordinated raid conducted by officers from the Anti-Narcotics Unit (ANU), the Transnational Organised Crime Unit (TOCU), and Kiembeni Police Station.
According to police, the operation was intelligence-led and targeted a residential house concealed behind a high perimeter wall in the Barawa area of Kisauni Sub-County. A search of the premises led to the recovery of several sachets of heroin hidden in two bedrooms.
Further inspection of the compound revealed an additional package of heroin buried in a hole at one corner of the property, a concealment method believed to have been intended to evade detection.
In total, officers recovered 1,346 grams of heroin, estimated to have a street value of Sh4,092,000. Also seized were a digital weighing machine and a drying machine, items investigators say point to an organised drug distribution operation.
