Digital strategist Denis Itumbi has hit back at Archbishop Jackson Ole Sapit following the church leader’s recent remarks questioning the role of a bishop at the newly built State House chapel.

In a bold statement posted online, Itumbi reminded the Anglican Archbishop that the connection between State House and the Church is neither new nor accidental.

“It’s surprising that the Anglican Archbishop would publicly pose the question of who should serve as the State House Bishop,” Itumbi wrote.

He went on to explain that during colonial times, the British deliberately allocated land near Gate A of State House to the Anglican Church, resulting in the creation of Archbishopbourne a residence still used by the head of the Anglican Church in Kenya.

He added by saying that the home includes a fully furnished chapel intended to serve the spiritual needs of the President.

“By tradition, geography, and divine proximity you already are,” Itumbi said, addressing Ole Sapit directly and arguing that the Archbishop has always held the spiritual mandate to guide the Head of State.

He also recalled that former President Uhuru Kenyatta once attempted to appoint a State House Chaplain, but bureaucratic delays within the civil service derailed the effort.

Itumbi’s response comes days after Ole Sapit questioned the relevance of building a Ksh1.2 billion church within State House, asking whether the President would also serve as its bishop.
