Fourteen suspects, including three serving police officers and several foreign nationals, have been arrested over a suspected counterfeit currency operation in Nairobi.

The suspects were apprehended by detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) based at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA) following a raid at a warehouse in Vision Plaza Industrial Area on October 1, 2026.

The operation followed a complaint filed at JKIA Police Station by US national Alkhalifi Ibrahim Hassan.

Those arrested include nationals from Kenya, Nigeria, Cameroon and Sudan, alongside three police officers attached to the Security of Government Buildings (SGB) at Uhuru Camp. Two of the officers were allegedly armed with Beretta pistols, while another carried a Chalbi pistol.

Detectives recovered 31 sealed black pallets, three of which contained 156 bundles of US$100 notes suspected to be counterfeit.

The remaining pallets contained cement.
A plastic box containing 65 suspected fake gold bars, assorted chemicals believed to be used in making counterfeit currency and papers printed with US dollar notes were also seized.

Other exhibits included 13 bundles of suspected counterfeit US$100 notes, aluminium seals, UN blue plastic seals, KRA reflector jackets, empty suitcases, a pallet-strapping roll, a padlock cutter and a hacksaw.
The suspects remain in custody as investigations continue.
