Health Cabinet Secretary Aden Duale, on Tuesday, hosted World Health Organization (WHO) Acting Regional Director for Africa Dr. Chikwe Ihekweazu.

The talks, which were held at Afya House, aimed at strengthening Kenya’s response to pressing public health emergencies.

They addressed the country’s continued battle with Mpox, Cholera, Polio, Kala-azar and Measles which pose challenges that stretch the healthcare system’s capacity.

There was a focus on the operationalization of the Kenya National Public Health Institute (NPHI) which is central to disease surveillance and emergency preparedness.

WHO reaffirmed its commitment to support the NPHI in line with its regional mandate.

Cabinet Secretary Duale expressed gratitude to WHO for its ongoing support and called for deeper collaboration in emergency logistics, health worker training and community-based surveillance.

He highlighted that these efforts align with Kenya’s Universal Health Coverage agenda.

In attended was the Principal Secretary for Medical Services Dr. Ouma Oluga, Director General for Health Dr. Patrick Amoth and Dr. Stephen Muleshe from the Office of International Health Relations.
