Police Constable, Klinzy Masinde Barasa, has pleaded not guilty to the charge of murdering mask vendor Boniface Kariuki Mwangi during the June 17 protests in Nairobi.
His legal counsels’ prayer to have him released on bail pending pre-trial however hit a snag as the office of the Director of public Prosecution strongly opposed his release.
The High Court has ordered Masinde to be remanded until 19th August 2025 when bail hearing application will beAfter undergoing a 14days mental assessment to determine whether he was fit to stand trial.
Constable Klinzy Masinde Barasa on Monday appeared before Justice Kanyi Kimondo and pleaded not guilty to murdering mask vendor Boniface Kariuki.
Barasa’s defense team then applied for his release on bond pending trial. However, the prosecution team led by Senior Prosecuting Counsel Vincent Monda vehemently opposed the application.
The Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions was ordered to serve their grounds of opposition within 7 days.
Judge Kanyi Kimondo has scheduled a virtual hearing on August 19th owing to the High court recess period that will be starting on 1st of August.
