Kenya Ports Authority (KPA) Director Consolata Lusweti has emerged as a strong voice for equality, education, and economic empowerment as she sets her sights on the Kakamega County Woman Representative seat in the upcoming elections.

A seasoned administrator and community mobilizer, Lusweti has been described by many as an agent of change — a woman determined to uplift society by creating equal opportunities for both men and women. Her work in advocacy, mentorship, and social empowerment has resonated widely across the county.

Lusweti has been at the forefront of efforts to promote education for girls from poor families, saying that access to education is the foundation of empowerment. Through her engagements with schools and local organizations, she has championed initiatives that ensure vulnerable girls stay in school.

” Every girl deserves a chance to learn, dream, and build a future,” Lusweti said.

Her advocacy has gone beyond words — it has translated into tangible action across Kakamega.
Among her notable projects include:

Kiliboti Comprehensive School, where she funded the construction of a six-door modern toilet block after the previous facilities had sunk and were condemned by the Public Health Department.

Mary Lusweti Comprehensive School, which underwent complete renovation under her initiative, including the construction of the county’s first disabled-friendly toilets to promote inclusion for learners with disabilities.

Kwambu Comprehensive School in Lugari-Luandeti, where she rehabilitated three classrooms that had been declared unsafe for use.

Lugusi Comprehensive School in Malava, and Mtoni Secondary School, both of which benefited from new water tanks to improve access to clean water and sanitation for students.

Additionally, through her “100% Transition Program”, Lusweti awarded bursaries to 269 Form Two students, ensuring that financial constraints do not block deserving learners from continuing their education.

Her advocacy also extends to sanitary pad distribution programmes, land rights, and marriage protection laws that promote fairness and dignity for both genders. She believes that true equality can only be achieved when both men and women are protected and empowered under the same social and economic systems.

” We must strive for fairness-in homes,in property ownership, and in opportunity,” she added. “Empowering one gender should never mean sidelining the other.”

Lusweti is also deeply committed to driving economic empowerment among women and youth in Kakamega. She believes that young people and women have the capacity to run successful start-ups if given access to training and financial resources.

She has particularly emphasized agro-based ventures as a tool for growth, noting that Kakamega’s fertile land can be harnessed to create jobs, improve food security, and boost household incomes.

“Agro and economic farming are powerful avenues for women to grow economically,” Lusweti said. “If we equip them with skills and market access, we can transform livelihoods at the grassroots.”

Her hands-on approach and emphasis on inclusive development have earned her admiration from both local leaders and residents. Many see her as a pragmatic leader with a deep understanding of the challenges faced by ordinary citizens, especially women and youth.

As she seeks to represent Kakamega at the national level, Lusweti’s message of equality, empowerment, and opportunity continues to gain traction. Her vision, she says, is to see a county where every man, woman, and child can pursue their potential in dignity and fairness.

“This is our time tobuild a society that values everyone equally,” she said. “Together, we can create a brighter future for Kakamega.”

With her growing popularity and a solid track record of development projects, Consolata Lusweti is positioning herself as one of Kakamega’s most promising leaders — a champion of social justice and a voice of transformation for the people.
