President William Ruto’s daughter, Charlene Ruto, is trending on X over misleading reports that her father has appointed her to a plum government job.
The reports, through a distorted gazette notice, purported Charlene had been appointed as the chairperson of the National Mining Corporation for three years.
Addressing the rumours, the Ministry of Mining, Blue Economy, and Maritime Affairs debunked the claim, stamping the notice as fake.
Further, the ministry shared the authentic gazette notice indicating Joseph Kipchumba Lagat as the actual appointee to the aforementioned position.
“In exercise of the powers conferred by section 25 (1) (a) of the Mining Act, 2016, I, William Samoei Ruto, President of the Republic of Kenya and Commander-in-Chief of the Defence Forces, appoint- JOSEPH KIPCHUMBA LAGAT to be the Chairperson of the National Mining Corporation, for a period of three (3) years, with effect from the 4th October, 2024," reads the original notice which was falsified with Lagat's name replaced with Charlene.
