The Communications Authority of Kenya (CA) has announced plans to revoke the broadcasting licences of 42 television stations for failing to meet regulatory requirements.

In a gazette notice issued on Friday, CA Director General David Mugonyi stated that the revocations will take effect within seven days, in accordance with the Kenya Information and Communications Act (Cap. 411).

Among the broadcasters facing licence cancellation are Metropol TV, Mount Kenya TV, Kingdom Ambassadors TV, and Tourism and Wildlife TV (Safari Channel).

Once revoked, the affected stations will no longer be permitted to operate, and all assigned broadcasting resources will revert to the Authority.

“Upon revocation of the licences, the licensees shall not be authorised to operate and provide the services as indicated,” Mugonyi said.

The CA cited several violations leading to the impending revocations, including failure to pay licence fees, lack of adequate broadcasting infrastructure, non-compliance with broadcasting standards, and airing of unapproved or inappropriate content.

This move follows earlier enforcement warnings in May 2025, when the Betting Control and Licensing Board (BCLB) flagged 23 TV stations—including Kameme TV—for violating regulations on betting advertisements.

Despite prior directives, the stations reportedly continued to broadcast gambling-related content featuring mobile payment prompts.
