On Thursday morning, Naivasha Member of Parliament and vocal government critic Jane Kihara was shocked as auctioneers, armed police officers, and security personnel trespassed her home, took her personal car, and livestock without her consent, citing a debt of KSh 7.5 million to ex-area MP John Mututho.
-As per what people saw, the auctioneers entered the legislator’s precinct in Naivasha forcibly, and they took away more than 100 goats and sheep that they think are the animals of her son and a Toyota Prado. The animal release is connected to a very old dispute related to the 2007 election case between Kihara and Mututho.
After the seizure, the MP, speaking emotionally, criticized the occurrence and alleged that it was done purposely and politically motivated. She affirmed that she did not get any notice of the court order which permitted the action and that the matter was still before the Court of Appeal.
“I was not informed about any court order. This is an act of intimidation and it wants to silence me as I support former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua,” Kihara remarked.
This event leads to even more problems for the Naivasha legislator, following less than a month from the time when the anti-riot police force invaded her residence and broke up a meeting she had called, allegedly due to security issues.
Kihara has contended that the present operation is a part of a larger plan to threaten and weaken her politically, and stated that she would sue for her rights and fair process violation.
-By the time of going to press, we could not reach out to former MP John Mututho for any reaction to this matter.
