Socialite and influencer Amber Ray has once again sparked conversation online after candidly addressing questions surrounding her engagement, marriage, and relationship with her partner Kennedy Rapudo. Amber revealed that although Rapudo gave her an engagement ring, the couple never officially announced or formalised their engagement. Two years on, she says, the ring has quietly disappeared and she is at peace with that decision.
“Hii mwaka ikiisha kama hatujaoana officially natoa engagement ring! It’s been two years nikiwa na pete na yeye (Rapudo) hana,” Amber said, explaining that while she has been wearing a ring, Rapudo does not.
Amber went on to highlight the societal pressure placed on women, especially African women, to prioritise marriage above all else. She noted that while getting married is often celebrated as a major milestone, motherhood and personal fulfilment deserve equal respect.
“Unajua makosa ilifanyika nikazaa Africanah kama sijaolewa but sasa kuzaa mtoto mwingine kama sijaolewa haiwezi!” she added, suggesting that while she does not regret becoming a mother, she is now more intentional about future decisions.
