Kenya’s government, led by spokesperson Hon. Sen. (Dr.) Isaac Mwaura, outlined its ambitious new tax and economic reforms under the Bottom-Up Economic Transformation Agenda (BETA Plan), with a vision to promote sustainable growth, equitable income distribution, and economic resilience.

Hon. Sen. (Dr.) Isaac Mwaura detailed the steps the Government is taking to create a thriving economic environment for all Kenyans.

Over the last two years, the Government has focused on sound fiscal policies, including measures to curb rising public debt.

Dr. Mwaura emphasized the importance of shifting from foreign debt reliance to generating robust domestic revenue, which the proposed tax laws aim to achieve.

Currently, Kenya’s national debt stands at 68% of GDP, down from 73%. This progress is part of a broader commitment to achieve economic stability and build a solid financial foundation.

“For the last 2 years, the Government has set in motion the Bottom-Up EconomicTransformation Agenda (THE BETA PLAN), which prioritizes job creation, income distribution, and economic stability.

This agenda drives our commitment to achieving an economic environment that allows all Kenyans to thrive” He highlighted.

The plan’s new tax reforms, developed with public input, focus on fair taxation, enhanced county funding, and support for social benefits like health care and housing.

Amendments to business laws promote local procurement, while tax updates ensure digital service providers and foreign entities contribute fairly.

Under the Social Health Authority, benefiting over 14 million Kenyans.

Public and private hospitals are encouraged to join SHA to increase access to essential healthcare across the nation.

With stable maize prices and expanded access agriculture remains central to the BETA Plan.

This initiative, along with a fertilizer subsidy, has kept staple food prices accessible to consumers.

The BETA Plan, bolstered by an IMF facility, aims to build a resilient economy that promotes growth and quality of life for all Kenyans
