Manchester City faced their first Premier League defeat since December 2023, as Bournemouth stunned the champions with a 2-1 victory.
The defeat snapped City’s remarkable run of 32 league games without loss, a streak that dated back to a loss against Aston Villa last year.
In a surprising upset, Andoni Iraola’s Bournemouth team, which had never beaten City in their previous 21 encounters—losing 19 of those—managed to derail the champions’ bid for a fifth consecutive title.
This follows Bournemouth’s recent impact on Arsenal’s title hopes, having defeated them 2-0 at the Vitality Stadium.
The match took a turn in the ninth minute when Bournemouth winger Antoine Semenyo scored, slotting in Milos Kerkez’s cross past Ederson.
Man City could not believe the loss.
Despite attempts to respond, City struggled to regain their footing, and Evanilson extended Bournemouth’s lead in the 64th minute with a composed finish from another Kerkez assist.
Although Gvardiol pulled one back with a header in the 82nd minute, it proved too late to salvage a point for City.
