The Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (ODPP) has reaffirmed its commitment to strengthening collaboration with the Judiciary and other justice sector institutions following the official opening of Maara Law Courts in Tharaka Nithi County.

The new court facility is expected to improve access to justice for residents by bringing judicial services closer to communities in the region.

Speaking during the launch, Regional Coordinator for the Lower Eastern Region and Deputy Director of Public Prosecutions Zachary Omwega, who represented the Director of Public Prosecutions, described the facility as an important milestone in improving access to justice.

Omwega noted that effective justice delivery depends on functional institutions, adequate infrastructure and strong cooperation among agencies within the justice sector.

He also commended Maara MP Kareke Mbiuki for facilitating the construction of the facility through the National Government Constituencies Development Fund (NG-CDF).

The ODPP representative further recognised the Judiciary’s efforts to expand access to justice through investment in court infrastructure.

The ceremony was presided over by Chief Justice and President of the Supreme Court Martha Koome and attended by national and county leaders alongside representatives of various justice sector institutions.

Also present was Ann Penny Gakumu, who heads the ODPP’s Tharaka Nithi station.

The launch marks another step towards expanding judicial infrastructure and improving access to justice for residents of Tharaka Nithi County.
